Bronze Icons

Poompuhar is a repository for the best collection of bronze icons, which are made by master craftsmen following the age-old cire purdue or lost wax process strictly following the canons of iconometry and iconography as enshrined in the Silpa Sastras and Aagamas.

Most of these pieces are replicas of the bronzes of Chola, Hoysala and Pallava periods. 

The five metals symbolizing the five elements (air, water, fire, earth and ether) namely, copper, zinc, lead, tin and gold are used to make the harmony and also used for worship.  For display icons, gold is not mixed.  

The bronzes displayed in this web site are only a few samples from the vast range available with Poompuhar.  Poompuhar can also undertake orders to produce any special bronze icon according to customers' specifications and choice of theme.
