FLOWER BAZAAR, SRIRANGAM The fragrance hits you, even as you turn to the Saathara street in Srirangam , which gives an impression of a garden.It doesn't take you long to realise that you are in the midst of a bazaar flooded with a variety of fresh and colourful flowers . The flower bazaar on the Saathara street has been a renowned place for more than five decades , being an epicente of wholesale and retail dealers. Also , it has been a meeting ground for horticulturists from a number of villages in Tiruchy and neighbouring districts.
MUSEIUM It is located in Rani Mangammal Mahal near Super bazzar ,Tiruchy . The museum is open on all days except Fridays .Time 10.00 Hrs To 17 Hrs. Entrance fee for Indians Adult Rs 5 Children Rs 3 Students Rs 2 Foreigners Rs 100 There are so many sculpures like mahavirar ,buddha ,vishnu etc.It has fossil,Pre history megalithic ,Paleolithic and Neolithic tools, Earthern moulds for metals;Inscriptions and palm leaf manuscripts, insects, reptiles, birds, mammals. Ancient sculptures like thirumal crawling krishna ,thirumal with consorts ,devi ,durga ,saint manickavasagar, Nataraja and chandra sekar are here. Tribal model of pachamalai hills,Thanjavur painting ,Coins of India etc are also here
ANNA SCIENCE CENTRE - PLANETARIUM Planetarium is in the Pudukkottai High way and 5 Kms away from Tiruchirappalli Central Bus Stand. Presently," EARTH THE LIVING PLANET" Planetarium show is being screened at Anna Science Centre. The timings of the shows are : TAMIL : 10.30 a.m. 1.00 p.m. 3.30 p.m. 4.45 p.m ENGLISH : 11.45 a.m. 2.15 p.m. ENTRY FEE : Adult : Rs.10/- per head. GEM CUTTING INDUSTRY, TIRUCHY The areas around Tiruchy were visited by people from Rome centuries ago for procurement of gems. Tiruchy boasts a large number of small time gem traders. Varieties of gems are found in and around Kankeyam ,Karur ,Kulithalai and Namakkal .Every year at Tiruchy,during December Indian Gem and Jewellary show is conducted for 2 days by the All India Gem Manufacturer’s Association to create marketing link with international market. The process of cutting and polishing had originated in Tamil nadu , the historian view , that Tamilnadu is a major trade centre for gems since time immemorial.
CIGAR FACTORY Woraiyur Woraiyur is also famous for its handmade cigar and handloom saris. The handmade cigar of Woraiyur were said to be famous oversees, so much so that even Winston Churchill is said to have relished them though he remained loyal to Cuban cigars.
GANDHI MARKET, TIRUCHI Tiruchy’s 128 year old Gandhi Market is situated in the heart of the city.Being one of the biggest and oldest markets of Tamil nadu , it has a rich historical heritage. COLLECTORE'S CHAMBER HERITAGE BUILDING On the right bank of uyyakondan ,one of the main tributaries of the river cauvery ,stood the Majestic building overlooking the kuzhumai amman temple ,2 centuries old .It is the part of the present Tiruchy collectorate complex ,the blend of British and Nayak Architecture .The octagonal first floor of the building ,once accomadated the collector's chamber.The ground floor ,beneath is also octagonal in shape .The vast space south of the main building served as stable for collector’s horses. Here now stand the present main building, the collectors chamber and office. There is an ancient granary in this village .This was build for emergency storage of grains,during the Nawab of Arcot period . This stucco granary is 120ft long and 40 ft. wide and has three portions.
SAI BABA MEDITATION CENTRE , MANIKANDAM The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple visited by all faith is located at Manikandam,10 kms from Tiruchirappalli in Viralimalai Road. The life history of Shridi Sai Baba is depicated in paintings here.
SIRUNAVALLUR , GRANARY There is an ancient granary in this village .This was build for emergency storage of grains,during the Nawab of Arcot period . This stucco granary is 120ft long and 40 ft. wide and has three portions.
SERICULTURE FARM MANIKANDAM There is a Sericulture farm located at Manikandam in Tirichy Dt. More than 1000 Acres (300 Hect) of mulberry cultivation is taking place here.
STONE CARVING VILLAGE -OKKARAI The master craftsmen of Okkarai Village in between Thurayur and Sobanapuram 70 Kms off Tiruchy are experts in Stone carving.A few centres with exquisitely carved sculptures and the craftsmen at work can be seen here. The master craftsmen belonging to the Viswa Karma Boyan community about two centuries ago, were specialising in the making of wooden temple cars, and the artistic and brilliant panels containing figures of Gods and Goddess, which adorn the great temple cars. The great wood craftsmen at work can be found at Arumbavur and Thammampatti.
