            The Marudhu Pandiar Transport Corporation Limited, with headquarters at Karaikudi was brought into existence with effect from 01.04.83, on bifurcation of Pandiyan Roadways Corporation Limited and the Corporation commenced its operations from 01.04.83 with the fleet strength of 352.  The total fleet strength has touched 581 as on 31.03.2003.  The Corporation is serving the public in the two districts of Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram.  The Corporation was renamed as Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam (Division-III) Ltd, Karaikudi on 01.07.97. During the year 2002-2003, 38 buses have been purchased for replacement.
