The Veeran Alagumuthukone Transport Corporation was formed with effect from 16.3.96 mainly bifurcating from Marudhu Pandiar Transport Corporation Limited to serve better the traffic needs of Pudukkottai District, with headquarters at Pudukkottai.  The Corporation is functioning with a total fleet strength of 352 as on 31.03.2003.  The Corporation was renamed as Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam (Division-IV) Ltd, Pudukkottai on 01.07.97 During the year 2002-2003, 27 buses have been purchased for replacement.
