Christopher Nelson, born on 17th March,1951 at Nagercoil, Kanayakumari District, Tamil Nadu. He received his School Education at the Scott Christian High School, Nagercoil, and College education at the Scott Christian College, Nagercoil and the Nazareth Margoschis College, Tutucorin district. He is a postgraduate of Economics of the Madras University having studied at Pachaiappas College in Chennai.
He joined the Tamil Nadu Secretariat Service in 1974 and served there for about 10 years. He joined the Tamil Nadu Police Service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1985 and confirmed in the IPS in 1991.He served as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Law and Order in various capacities and also in the Special Security Group for about 6 years. He served as Assistant Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police in the Chennai City in various capacities for about 8 years.
He served as Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police in the Districts of Tamil Nadu for about 10 years. He was Inspector General of Police, Refugees Camp for Three years and retired from Indian Police Service during March, 2011.
During his service he was awarded with 64 commendations for his excellent work on different occasions. He was awarded with the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service during 1995.
