Kanchi bags award for serving the disabled

KANCHEEPURAM: Kancheepuram district has bagged the national award for effectively launching schemes for the disabled.

A press release from the Collectorate stated that the district also won awards for implementing schemes for the rehabilitation of the handicapped. It further said that the district stood first for implementing the 20-point programme during the years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.

The release further said that Kancheepuram which was in the second place in Flag Day collection (Rs 44 lakh) in 2003-2004, had won the first place in 2004-2005 with a total collection of Rs 54 lakh.
