Chennai
to boast of first Women's Industrial Park
CHENNAI:
The concept is new. But it's worth a trial. In keeping with the changing
times, the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation (TANSIDCO) is
coming up with the State's first ever industrial park exclusively devoted to
women entrepreneurs of the city near Avadi. Named Thirumullaivoil Women's
Industrial Park, it will go on steam in April, 2003, sources say.
''We
are speeding up the developmental works for the estate such as laying of
roads, water supply, street lights and power supply, and I hope they will be
completed by March, 2003, as per the schedule,'' Rural Industries Minister R
Vadivel told The New Indian Express on Friday.
The
estate is at Kattur village, 12 km from Avadi.
The
authorities are planning to implement the first phase of the project in a
total area of 290 acre. Of this, 218 acre is marked for 342 plots. And works
are going on with an initial outlay of Rs 6.10 crore. The work for the estate
started in June this year.
Of
218 acre, about 60 acre has been earmarked for facilities like roads, bus
terminus, police station, fire brigade, electricity sub-station, post office
and bank.
''For
second phase, the government has given administrative approval for acquiring
122 acre of private land 'lying vacant' in the area and about 136 acre of land
belonging to a temple. About 500 acre has been identified for the third
phase,'' official sources said.
Allotment
of plots will be under the discretion of SIDCO and it would be done on
first-come-first-serve basis. Cost of the land would be Rs 8 lakh per acre. A
minimum of 25 cents would be allotted to an applicant, they added.
SIDCO
Thirumullaivoil branch manager R Thirunavukkarasu said the cost of an
application form was Rs 300, and applicants should pay an amount of Rs 3,000
as non-refundable processing fee and Rs 10,000 as EMD along with the
application.
If
it is cash purchase, allotees should pay 25 per cent of the land cost within
two months from the date of allotment and the remaining amount in the next
four months, he said. If it is on hire-purchase basis, 25 per cent of the land
cost should be paid in two months from the date of allotment and the remaining
amount should be paid in 12 half-yearly instalments.
Allotees
should complete their construction work and commence the production within two
years of the allotment, Thirunavukkarasu stated.
However,
no allotment will be made for water-oriented and other polluting industries
like textile, paper, petroleum, chemical, rubber, soaps and glass as they may
affect the nearby Puzhal Lake.
According
to officials, so far, 700 applications have been sold and 85 entrepreneurs
have applied, and allotments are expected to be made from February.
''The
government has already announced that industrial estates for women will also
come up in Tiruchy, Salem, Madurai and Coimbatore, and we hope we can
inaugurate the next park in Salem very soon,'' the Minister informed.
