Performance  Budget  2001 - 2002

PART-A

1. The Director of Industries and Commerce is entrusted with the responsibility of formulation and implementation of schemes and programmes for generating and accelerating the growth of industries in general and small scale industries in particular in the State.

2. As far as Major Industries are concerned, the Department of Industries and Commerce is playing the vital role of disbursing Government assistance in the form of capital subsidies, share capital assistance, loans, compensation for land acquisition, and ways and means advances etc., sanctioned to various Government undertakings under the control of Industries Department and also watching the recoveries.

3. Further, the Department of Industries and Commerce, processes the applications preferred by the industrial units for issue of licenses under the Industries Development and Regulation Act, 1951 and recommends the eligible cases to Government of India. It is also monitoring the implementation of the Industrial Entrepreneurs Memoranda (IEM) filed by entrepreneurs.

4. State Board of Salt and Allied Chemicals, a constituent of this Department, is conducting preliminary surveys and investigations for setting up of major salt works in the State and it is also assisting for expansion of production capacity of the existing salt factories.
