Objectives & Commitments

The  Tamilnadu Palm Products Development Board was established in 1995 based at Egmore,  Chennai – 600 008. Under Tamil Nadu Act (15) of 1994 to achieve the following objectives.  

i)           To organize the rural workers involved in the production of palm products.

ii)          To promote and introduce modern concepts in the industry.

iii)         To make the palm products competitive and attractive to increase business

iv)         To carry out research work for the development of palm products etc to achieve social objectives of alleviating of rural poverty by creating marketing forums for palm products like palm jaggery, palm sugar, palm candy, palm fruit jam etc., with the help of cooperative societies. 

Though the Tamil Nadu Palm Products Development Board is not directly involved in trading activities, it promotes production and trade through  996 Primary Palm Jaggery Cooperative Societies (including Palm Leaf Workers Cooperative Societies), 8 District Palmgur Marketing Cooperative Federations and one Tamil Nadu State Palmgur and Fibre Marketing Co-operative Federation.
