ORDER:-

The Government in  G.O. (Ms.) No.2481, Education, Science & Technology Department, dated: 9.11.1982, had issued orders that the Sports Stadia should not be spared for activities other than sports and games.  In relaxation of this order, Government in G.O.Ms.No.815, Education, Science & Technology Department, dated: 19.11.1996, had issued orders for sparing the Indoor Stadium, Chennai for non-sporting cultural events - Music, Dance, Theatre and similar entertainment shows and for meetings of non-political and non-religious associations.  This permission excluded religious, political and individual functions like weddings and receptions.  The Govt. however directed that all the other Stadia should be reserved only for sporting purposes.

            2) Representations have been received by the Government that the Indoor Stadium, Chennai has been allotted in the past for non-sporting events for extended periods of time, as a result of which it is sometimes not available for sporting events.  The Government, therefore, consider it necessary to impose a ceiling on the duration of allotment of the Indoor Stadium for non-sporting events by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu in order that the stadium is available for sporting events for more number of days.

            3) Therefore, in partial modification of the orders in the reference second cited,  Government order that the Member-Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu may rent out the Indoor Stadium, Chennai hereafter for non-sporting events only for a maximum period of 3 days for any given event.  If any request for the use of the Indoor Stadium for a non-sporting event for more than 3 days is received, the Member-Secretary shall immediately forward such representation to the Government along with his remarks, and Government shall take decision in the matter.  In such cases, use of the Indoor Stadium shall be permitted only after obtaining the prior orders of the Government.  It is clarified that there will be no ceiling for renting the Indoor Stadium by Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu for sporting events.

            4) All other orders issued in G.O.Ms.No.815, Education, Science & Technology Department, dated: 19.11.1996 shall remain in force.
