Government Sir, Sub: National Service Scheme – Tamil Nadu NSS Cell – Allocation of additional NSS Volunteers strength during the year 2003-2004 – Acceptance of State Government – Regarding. Ref: 1) From the Deputy Programme Adviser, NSS Regional Centre Letter F. No. 2-28/2002-2003/NSS-2725-27, dt. 28.1.2003 and 20.2.2003 2) From the State Coordinator, NSS & Director of Collegiate Education, Lr. No. 4166/P2/2003, dt. 13.3.2003. 3) From the Deputy Programme Adviser, NSS Regional Centre, letter No. 2-28/2002-03 NSS-3216 dated 27.3.03. ---------- I am directed to state that the Deputy Programme Adviser, NSS Regional Centre, Chennai in his letter cited has suggested that as per the guidelines issued by Government of India, the student allocation has to be increased by 10% every year. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to enhance the NSS student volunteers strength for the year 2003-04 as detailed below. a) Regular activities .. 2,30,000 b) Special Camping Programme .. 1,15,000 The Government of India have also requested to obtain the concurrence of the State Government for the additional allocation. 2. Accepting the suggestion of the Deputy Programme Adviser, NSS Regional Centre, Chennai and taking into consideration the recommendation of the NSS State Co-ordinator, the Government agreed to increase the student strength from 2,05,700 to 2,30,000 in respect of NSS regular activities and from 1,02,850 to 1,15,000 for Special Camping Programme for the year 2003-04. Additional funds in this regard will be provided in the revised estimate for the year 2003-04. 3. This letter issues with the concurrence of Finance department vide its U.O. No. 8/Secy. Fin/ dated 1.7.2003.
