ORDER: At present Press Accreditation is granted to the Journalists in Madras only accordance with the rules laid down in the Government Order first read above and subsequently amended by a specially constituted Press Accreditation Committee. 2. In the Government Order second read above, the above system of Press Accreditation was extended to Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore districts for one year only with effect from 29.4.1971. This system was not further continued in the Distiricts beyond that period. In the order third read above, the system of press Accreditation to Journalists now followed in Madras City has been extended to all the districts in the State on permanent basis. A copy of the G.O. is enclosed. 3. The Governhave now decided that accredited journalists should be given free bus passes for travel within their respective districts in State owned Transport Corporation buses and accordingly issue the following orders:- i) Free passes should be issued to accredited reporters of dailies, news agencies and All India Radio stationed in the districts for free travel within the districts in State Owned Transport Corporation buses; (ii) In the event of some papers not having accredited correspondents in a particular district, free passes should be issued to non-accredited correspondents at the rate of one per paper per district. The choice of the non-accredited correspondent to be given the pass should be left to the paper concerned. (iii) The passes will be issued by the concerned State Transport Corporations on the recommendation of the Collectors concerned in the districts and the Director of Information and Public Relations in Madras City. Passes will not be issued by Pallavan Transport Corporation(Express). (iv) The passes will be valid only for the district in which the reporter is working and not for other areas of operation of the Corporation. (v) The cost of free passes should be met by the Transport Corporations themselves in the interest of their public relations; (vi) The passes are not valid for travel in Pallavan Transport Corporations(Express) buses; and (vii) The Managing Director, Pallavan Transport Corporation(Metro) in co-ordination with the Managing Director, Pallavan Transport Corporation(District) will issue free passes to the journalists in Madras City for suburban areas also falling within the area of operation of the buses of Pallavan Transport corporation (District)
4. The Managing Directors of State Transport undertakings are requested to take action accordingly.
