ORDER:

In the G.O. read above, the Government ordered the issue of bus passes by the TamilNadu State Transport Department to the sitting Members of the Tamil Nadu Legislativie Assembly and the Legislative Council for their personal use for travel in the buses of the department in this State without payment of bus fare. The Members can use the passes till such time as they hold office as Members of the Legislature.

2. The Government have since formed the four autonomous Corporations, viz., (1) The Pallavan Transport Corporation (2) The Pandyan Roadways Corporation, (3) The Cholan Roadways Corporation and (4) The Cheran Transport Corporation. The Government have decided that the Members of the Legislature of this State should be allowed to travel in the buses of these Corporations also for this purpose Members need not be issued with separate passes. The passes issued by the State Transport Department would be valid and would be the authority for Members travelling in the buses operated by any of the four Government owned Transporot Corporations.

The Managing Directors of the four Government owned Corporations are requested to issue instructions to their staff to honour the passes issued by the State Transport Department to the Members of the Legislature for the purpose of travel without payment of bus fare in their areas of operation. They are also requested to write to the Legislators individually, informing them that they could use these passes in the area of operation of their respectivie Corporations without payment of bus fare.

3. The Government direct that the TamilNadu State Transport Department and the four Corporations should charge the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Departments as follows for allowing the Members of the State Legislature to travel in their buses without paying cost of travel.

4. Cholan Roadways Corporation 20,000 (Rupees twenty thousand) 5,000 (Rupees five thousand)

 

5. Cheran Transport Corporation 4,000 (Rupees four thousand) 1,000 (Rupees one thousand)

The payments due from Government will be claimed once a year in April for the amounts due in respect of theprevious financial year. If the passes issues by the State Transport Department, or the autonomous Corporations have not been valid for a full financial year, the payments claimed will be restricted to the number of completed months during which the passes have been valid in the financial year.

4. The State Transport Department will raise the necessary debit against the Assembly and Council Departments. As far as the Corporations are concerned, they will claim from Government these amounts under the appropriate heads of accounts and they will be reimbursed. Regarding the appropriate heads of the Account, the Director of State Transport and the Managing Directors of the Corporations may correspond with the Assembly and Council Departments.

5. This order issues with the concurrence of the Finance Department vide its U.O.Note No.29206A/IB/72-1 dated 22.2.72.
