ORDER:

The freedom fighters of Tamil Nadu were representing to the Government to extend free travel facility in the buses of the State Transport undertakings. The Chieif Minister of TamilNadu considered their requests and on 24.1.90 and 28.3.90 announced on the Floor of the House that Freedom Fighters and those who participated in the Border and/or Language stirs and who are receipients of pension or financial assistance as such from this Government will be issued free passes to travel in the buses of the State Transport undertakings.

2. The Government accordingly direct that the Freedom Fighters and those who participated in Border and Language Stirs and have been granted pension/financial assistance by the Government of Tamil Nadu be given free bus passes to travel in the buses of all the State Transport undertakings including the buses of Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation. The bus passes shall be issued by the State Transport undertakings concerned under the jurisdiction of which the beneficiary resides, on receipt of applications from them in the form prescribed in the annexure to this order. The Managing Director of the State Transport undertakings concerned should record an entry in the pension payment/financial assistance, order of the beneficiary for having issued the bus pass.

3. The Freedom Fighters and those who participated in Border and Language Stirs are permitted to reserve seats, in advance in the buses of Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation, by producing the bus pass issued to them.

4. The Government will sanction a subsidy of Rs.40.00 lakhs (Rupees forty lakhs only) to the Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation towards the loss of revenueto the State Transport undertakings on account of this concession during the first year. The Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation will apportion the amount among other State Transport undertakings based on the number of bus passes issued by them to the above beneficiaries and the utility of the buses of Thiruvalluvar Transport Corporation by the beneficiairies. Orders regarding the mode of apportioning will be issued separately.

5. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.63/DD(K)/BPE/90-1, dated 6.4.90.
