ORDER:

Government is maintaining institutions for children, girls and women under the Department of Social Defence. The institutions are established under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 1986 and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956. To ensure hygienic supply of water to the inmates in the institutions, water purifiers were provided in all the Government Juvenile/Special Homes and the Government Observation Home, Chennai in the first phase during 1998-99.

2) The Director of Social Defence, Chennai has now submitted proposals for the supply of Water Purifiers to the remaining 10 Observation Homes and two Vigilance/Protective Homes at Chennai and Madurai at a cost of Rs.25,000/- each during 2000-2001. 500 children and 100 girls and women are likely to be benefitted under the scheme.

3) The Government have examined the proposals of the Director of Social Defence and accord sanction for the incurring of an expenditure (Non-Recurring) of Rs.3.00 lakhs (Rupees Three lakhs only) for the supply of one Water Purifier each costing Rs.25,000/- (Rupees Twentyfive thousand only) to the 10 Observation Homes and two Vigilance / Protective homes at Chennai and Madurai during the year 2000-2001.

5) The expenditure sanctioned in para 3 above should be debited under

"2235 – Social Security and Welfare – 02 – Social Welfare – 106 – Correctional Services - Schemes in the Ninth Five Year Plan- II – State Plan – JE – Government Approved Schools – 24 – Materials and Supplies"(DPC 2235 02 106 JE 2400).

6) This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.33453/SW/2000 Dated 2-5-2000.
