GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL NADU ABSTRACT Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department - Part-II Scheme for 2000-2001 –Strengthening of the Regional office of the Directorare of Social Defence at Madurai - Expenditure – sanctioned. Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department G.O.Ms.No.107 Dated 30-6-2000 Read: From the Director of Social Defence, Chennai Letter No.11284/B 2/99 Dated 25-1-2000,22-6-2000 and 27-6-2000. **** ORDER: The Regional Office under the Department of Social Defence at Madurai is headed by a Deputy Director supported with one section only. The Deputy Director, Madurai is vested with powers of conducting annual Departmental inspections under the Department in the Southern Districts. Besides that, the Deputy Director , Madurai is also the controlling officer and sanctioning authority for various expenses relating to the institutions. He is also the drawing and disbursing officer and sanctioning grants to Non-Governmental Organisations. Drug Abuse Prevention Programme and Street Children Welfare Programme are also inspected by him and recommended to Government of India through the Director of Social Defence, Chennai. There are 52 institutions coming under the jurisdiction of the Regional Office, Madurai. The Deputy Director, Madurai has no second level officer to assist him in matters of importance and to head the office during Camps or inspections of the Deputy Director.
2) The Director of Social Defence has, therefore, sent a proposal to the Government for the stregnthening of the Regional Office by providing one Assistant Director, one Assistant and Computer with accessories to cope with the workload and improve the efficiency in administration.
3) The Government have examined the proposals of the Director of Social Defence for the strengthening of the Regional Office of the Department at Madurai and accept the same. Sanction is accorded for incurring an expenditure of Rs.2.98 lakhs (Rupees Two lakhs and ninety eight thousand only) towards the appointment of one post of Assistant Director, one post of Assistant and Computer with accessories as indicjted idn the annexure.I with a view to assist the Deputy Director, Madurai Region of the Directorate of Social Defence in the efficient administration of the office during 2000-2001 subject to the condition that the cost of personnel provided under the scheme should be met by redeployment/surrendering three posts from the Non-Plan aids as indicated in Annexre.II.
4) The expenditure in this connection is debitable under the folloiwng head of accounts:-
1) "2235 – Social Security and Welfare – 02 – Social Welfare – 001- Direction and Administration - Schemes in the Ninth Five Year Plan- II – State Plan – JG – Directorate of Social Defence- 01 – Salaries" (DPC 2235 02 001 JG 0106).
2) "2235 – Social Security and Welfare – 02 – Social Welfare – 001- Direction and Administration - Schemes in the Ninth Five Year Plan- II – State Plan – JG – Directorate of Social Defence- 05 – Office Expenses" (DPC 2235 02 001 JG 0526).
3) "2235 – Social Security and Welfare – 02 – Social Welfare – 001- Direction and Administration - Schemes in the Ninth Five Year Plan- II – State Plan – JG – Directorate of Social Defence- 76 – Computer and accessories" (DPC 2235 02 001 JG 7609).
6) This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.403/SS(GV)/2000 Dated 29-6-2000.
