Read also: From the Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Revenue Administration, Chennai Letter No. AU 5(1)/47531/2006, dated 17-6-2006. ------ ORDER: The Government as a measure of providing Social Security to the destitute aged persons have introduced the Old Age Pension Scheme with effect from 01.04.1962. An amount of Rs.20/- per month had been paid to the Old Age Pension beneficiaries since the inception of the scheme till 31st March 1979. The Government after considering the hardship of the pensioners had increased the pension amount of Rs.20/- per month to Rs.25/- p.m. with effect from 01.04.1979 in the Government Order second read above and from Rs.25/- per month to Rs.35/- per month with effect from 01.04.1982 in the Government Order fourth read above. In the Government order, sixth read above, the pension amount was increased to Rs.50/- p.m. with effect from 01.05.1989. In the Government Order ninth read above, the pension was increased to Rs.75/- per month with effect from February 1992. In the Government Order tenth read above, the pension was increased to Rs.100/- per month with effect from 01.07.1995. In the Government Order eleventh read above, the pension was increased to Rs.150/- p.m. with effect from 01.04.1998. In the Government Order twelfth read above, the pension was increased to Rs.200/- per month with effect from 1-4-2000. 2. Taking into consideration the increase of prices over time, the Government have decided to increase the Old Age Pension amount from Rs.200/- to Rs.400/- to all categories of Old Age Pensioners Viz. Old Aged persons, Physically handicapped destitutes, destitute Widows, destitute Agricultural Labourers and deserted wives. 3. The Government, accordingly, direct that the Old Age Pension to all the eligible beneficiaries in the existing five categories mentioned above be raised to Rs.400/- per month from Rs.200/- p.m. with effect from 01-08-2006. 4. The Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Revenue Administration is also requested to issue necessary instructions to all Collectors, to ensure that the Old Age Pension amount is disbursed to the beneficiaries at the enhanced rate promptly every month without any delay. 5.
