Abstract

Social Welfare - Natural Calamities - Earthquake Tsunami (giant tidal wave) struck Tamilnadu coast on 26.12.2004 sanction of Old Age Pension and other destitute pension scheme to the eligible persons in the affected areas - instructions to all District Collectors- Orders issued.

ORDER:-

Consequent on the heavy death toll following the earthquake / Tsunami (giant tidal waves) disaster which struck Tamilnadu on 26.12.2004 a large number of women have lost their husbands who were the sole bread winners of their families. Many of them have lost their family support and many others have been left destitute. There is an emergent need to sanction pension to all those left destitute by this sudden calamity so as to enable them to resume their normal lives.

2. Presently, the following schemes are operated by Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department :-

Old Age Pension (Normal) Scheme

Destitute Physically Handicapped Pension Scheme

Destitute Widows Pension Scheme

Destitute Agricultural Labourers Pension Scheme

Destitute Deserted Wives Pension Scheme

3. In the G.O. read above, Government have declared the following 13 coastal districts as Tsunami disaster affected for the purpose of relief and rehabilitation measures.

 

1. Thiruvallur              8. Thanjavur

2. Chennai                9. Pudukottai

3. Kancheepuram    10. Ramanathapuram

4. Villupuram           11. Thoothukudi

5. Cuddalore            12. Tirunelveli

6. Nagapattinam       13. Kanniyakumari

7. Thiruvarur

 

4. In the wake of the Tsunami disaster Government direct that all destitutes in the Tsunami affected areas of the districts affected who are eligible for OAP as per the Old Age Pension Rules and destitute pension under the schemes listed in para-2 above shall be sanctioned pension immediately. Government further direct that this work should be done on a war footing and should be completed within a week’s time from the date of issue of this order.

5. The District Collectors are requested to send Completion Report in this regard to the Special Commissioner and Commissioner for Revenue Administration, Chennai - 5 within a week. The Special Commissioner and Commissioner for Revenue Administration is requested to send a consolidated report in the matter to Government after receipt of final reports from the Collectors.
