ORDER:-

The Tsunami that struck the Tamil Nadu coast on 26.12.2004 was unprecedented in its suddenness and ferocity. The calamity has caused unprecedented devastation in the coastal districts. The destruction was severe. Huts and pucca houses have been flattened, fishing boats have been smashed, buses and big tankers have been strewn around. Infrastructure facilities have also suffered extensive damage. The families living along the coastline have lost all their possessions.

2. In the G.O. 2nd read above, orders have been issued for construction of houses with all infrastructure facilities to the affected families through public/ private partnership with participation of NGOs, Voluntary agencies, Public sector undertaking, Corporate Houses etc.,

3. In continuation of the GO 2nd cited the Government, after careful consideration, order that in cases where the NGOs/Corporate Houses/Public Sector undertakings/Charitable and other organizations wish to undertake one or more specific projects like construction of Schools, Child welfare Centres, Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, Community Centres, Vocational Training Centres etc., they can be permitted to do so subject to a minimum total investment of Rs. 50 lakhs. The other conditions and stipulations in the GO 2nd cited above shall apply to these projects.

4. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O. No. 173/FS/P/2005 dated 13.1.2005.
