Hon'ble Minister of Local Administration made an announcement on the Floor of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on 17.4.2002 for the year 2002-2003 that 6309 Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups will be taken up for construction during the year 2002-2003 at the cost of Rs.47.32 crores and at the rate of one Multi purpose centre for Self Help Groups per village panchayat.

2. The Director of Rural Development has sent proposal together with the draft guidelines to Government for construction of Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups under Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana and sought the orders of the Government for taking up the works of construction of Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups and for approval of the draft guidelines. It has been proposed to construct one multi purpose centre at a cost of Rs.1,00,000/- and at a total cost of Rs.63.09 crores and at the rate of one Multi purpose centre for Self Help Groups per Village Panchayat under Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana scheme.

3. The proposal of the Director of Rural Development for construction of the 6309 Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups under Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana was examined by the Government. The Government decide to permit the Director of Rural Development to take up the works of construction of 6309 Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups for the year 2002-2003 at a cost of Rs.63.09 crores and at the rate of one Multi purpose centre per Village Panchayat under

Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana. 50% of the panchayats will be covered in each district during 2002-2003. The expenditure for construction of one Multi purpose centre for Self Help Groups should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One lakh only). Government also approve the guidelines for the construction of Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups annexed to this order. The District Collectors and the Project Officers should ensure that the guidelines issued by the Government of India under Sampoorna Gramin Rojgar Yojana should be strictly adhered to in the implementation of the project of construction of the Multi purpose centres for Self Help Groups.

4. This order issues with the concurrence of Planning and Development Department, and Finance Department vide their U.O.No.100/S/02 dated 7/6/2002 and 1997/FS/P/2002 dated 13.6.2002 respectively.
