ORDER:

The Director of Town and Country Planning in his letter first read above has sent a proposal to Government to declare the following places as heritage towns as has been done earlier for 38 heritage towns in G.O. Ms. No.163 Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department dated 6.7.1993 and G.O. (Ms) No.191 Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department dated 18.7.1994.

The Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Endowments Department has recommended the proposal of the Director of Town and Country Planning except Sl.No.10 i.e Tharamangalam Town Panchayat. The Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj has also recommended the proposal of the Director of Town and Country Planning deleting Tharamangalam Town Panchayat (in SL.No.10) and Tirukoilur and Srimushnam Town Panchayats (in Sl.No.2) in the proposal.

2. The Government have carefully examined the proposals of the Director of Town and Country Planning as recommended by the Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Endowments Department and the Director of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and have decided to accept the same and declare the following places as heritage towns. The Government accordingly declare the following Village Panchayats as Heritage Towns so as to make them eligible to apply for the grant of Rs.50/- lakhs (Rupees fifty lakhs only) from the Town and Country Planning Development Fund, for the Heritage improvement Projects.

3. The Director of Town and Country Planning is requested to take follow up action in the matter and also send a report on the action taken in the matter to Government.
