ORDER:

The Chief Engineer (Plan Formulation) Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department has sent proposal through Engineer in Chief, Water Resources Organisation & Chief Engineer (General), Public Works Department, to the Government, for the construction of a Grade wall across Veeracholan river at 118.00 Km in Komal village of Mayiladuthurai taluk of Nagapattinam District at an estimated cost of Rs 40.00 lakhs.

2. The Chief Engineer, Plan Formulation, Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department, has stated that the A15 (a) New Komal channel is off taking from Veeracholan river at 117.768 Km at right bank of River Cauvery and irrigates an ayacut of 1472 acres. The bed level of Veeracholan river in the off taking point of A15 (a) New Komal channel has been eroded by the recent floods. During normal supply to the Veeracholan river, A15 (a) New Komal channel is not able to feed its full requirements. Hence it is proposed to construct a grade wall across Veeracholan river at L.S 118.00 Km to maintain the theoretical bed level. By implementing this scheme an extent of 1472 acres will be benefited. This work will be executed by the Regional Chief Engineer concerned. Hence no additional staff will be required for executing the scheme.

3. The above scheme has been approved by the Standing Finance Committee under Part –II scheme for 2007 –08. Accordingly, the Government accord administrative sanction for the construction of a Grade Wall across Veeracholan river at L.S 118.00 Km in Komal village of Mayiladuthurai taluk of Nagapattinam District at an estimated cost of Rs.40.00 lakhs (Rupees Forty Lakhs only) and the expenditure for the year 2007-2008 for the above scheme is restricted to Rs.20.00 lakhs (Rupees Twenty lakhs only)

4. The expenditure sanctioned in paragraph 3 above shall be debited to the following head of account:-

"4702 –00– Capital outlay on Minor irrigation – 101. Surface water – Scheme in the XI th Five year Plan – II State plan – JA Special Minor irrigation Programme –16 Major works" (4702 –00-101-JA – 1607)

5. The Chief Engineer, Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department, Trichy Region is requested to take up the work immediately and to complete it within the stipulated time. He is also requested to send a report on the progress of work to the Government every Month, periodically.

6. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.34666 / PW II / 2007, dated 5.6.07
