ORDER:

The Chief Engineer (Trichy Region) Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department has sent proposal through Engineer in Chief, Water Resources Organisation, & Chief Engineer (General), Public Works Department, to the Government for the Construction of a Grade wall across Vennar river at mile 42/1 to feed A-47 Regunatha Cauvery Channel in Thanjavur District at an estimated cost of Rs 175.00 lakhs.

2. The Chief Engineer, Trichy Region has stated that the A-47 Regunatha Cauvery channel is not getting sufficient water even during high supply in the Vennar river due to scour in the Vennar river at the off take point. Hence it is proposed to construct a Grade wall across Vennar river at mile 42/1 to feed A-47 Regunatha Cauvery channel. By implementing this scheme, 4996 acres of land will be benefited. The main components of this scheme are,

1. Construction of grade wall

2. Strengthening the river bund

3. Protection works in Upstream and Down steam sides

The cost of scheme based on the Schedule of Rates for the Year 2007 –2008 works out to Rs 175.00 lakhs. No land acquisition is involved.The work will be executed by the Chief Engineer, Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department, Trichy Region. Hence no additional staff will be required for executing the scheme.

3. The above scheme has been approved by the Standing Finance Committee under Part –II scheme for 2007 –08. Accordingly, the Government accord administrative sanction for the construction of a check dam across Vennar river at mile 42/1 to feed A-47 Regunatha Cauvery Channel in Thanjavur District at an estimated cost of Rs.175.00 lakhs.(Rupees one hundred and Seventy five lakhs only and the expenditure for the 2007-08 for the above scheme is restricted to Rs 70 Lahks (Rupees Seventy Lakhs only)

4. The expenditure sanctioned in paragraph 3 above shall be debited to the following head of account:-

"4702 –00– Capital outlay on Minor irrigation – 101. Surface water – Schemes in the XI th Five year Plan – II State plan – JA Special Minor irrigation programme –16 Major works" (4702 –00-101-JA – 1607)

5. The Chief Engineer, Water Resources Organisation, Public Works Department, Trichy Region is requested to take up the work immediately and complete it within the stipulated time. He is also requested to send a report on the progress of work to the Government every month periodically.

6. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No. 32823/PWII/07, dated 30.5.2007.
