ORDER:

An Announcement was made in the Address by His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu to the Legislative Assembly on 9th March 2002, that a new Department of Special Initiatives and Projects, to process innovative schemes that emanate from different sources would be formed. 

2. The Government after careful consideration direct that the Planning and Development Department be renamed as the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Department, with immediate effect, to pursue Special Initiative projects in consultation with the respective administrative departments of the Secretariat and other line departments. 

3. Necessary amendments to the Tamil Nadu Government Business Rules will be issued separately.
