Sub : Tamil Nadu Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1973 – Engagement of Government Servants in Collection of Contributions to offer gifts on occasion of wedding of the wards of Officers and Ministers – Strict avoidance of – Instructions – Issued.

It has come to the notice of the Government, that Government Servants of a department of the State Government, have collected Contributions from the staff of the Department to offer gifts on the occasion of a wedding that took place in the house of a Very Important Person.
2. Rule 5(1)(a) of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1973 stipulates that the Government Servant should not ask for or accept contributions or otherwise associate himself with the raising of any fund or other Collection in Cash or in kind in pursuance of any object whatsoever, without the previous sanction of the competent authority.
3. I am therefore, directed to request you to invite the attention of the staff members under your control to the instructions contained in the above rule and they may be requested to follow these instructions scrupulously in future, with the warning that failure to adhere to these instructions will entail severe disciplinary action against them. I am also to request you to ensure that severe disciplinary action will be taken against the Government servants engaging themselves in making collections or contributing to any unauthorized causes without approval or associating themselves with passing on the contributions either voluntarily or involuntarily.
