G.O Ms. No. 252, Rural Development Department, dt 11.8.1997. Read also: From the Managing Director, TWAD Board, Letter No. 2112/AE5/O&M/2002 Dated 16.8.2002 Order: The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board is executing a number of Water Supply schemes to the local bodies. These schemes, after trial run are handed over to the respective local bodies for their maintenance, if it is independent scheme, for the Local body. 2. In the Government Order first read above the water tariff for the water supply in bulk has been fixed at Rs. 3.50 per 1000 litres in urban areas. The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board has adopted the Government Order. Based on the revised orders, demands were raised and collection of water charges are made with effect from first April 1998. 3. The Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board has stated that electrical energy charges have been increased with effect from 1.12.2002 as 25% in High Tension and 112.5% in Low Tension electric supply. The increase in water tariff due to increase in electrical energy works out to Rs. 0.79 per 1000 litres. The Board of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board has resolved to approve the following tariff and recommended to Government.
4. The Government have examined the resolutions of Tami Nadu Water Supply Drainage Board carefully and approve the following revision in water tariff with immediate effect:-
For water supplied through public fountains in rural areas, a suitable surcharge on property tax shall be levied as water tax and the amount should be maintained in a separate water supply account at the village panchayat level. The Director of Rural Development and the Director of Town Panchayats shall take necessary follow up action in this regard. 5. District Collectors are authorised to deduct and pay directly to Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board; the dues to Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board from the funds devolving to the local bodies, in case of default. 6.
