ORDER:

The Commissioner of Tourism in his D.O. Letter first read above has stated that the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu while reviewing the activities of the Tourism Department on 13.07.2001 has ordered to upgrade the existing Boat Houses and to purchase new boats for the same. As the Boat Houses are revenue generating the Hon’ble chief Minster has ordered to set up new Boat Houses after due survey.

2. The Commissioner of Tourism has informed that the District Collector, Thoothukudi has sent a proposal at a cost of Rs.14.00 lakhs for setting up of a new Boat House at roche Park, South Beach Road, Thoothukudi. Large number of tourists is visiting the park daily. In order to increase the number of tourists and to provide additional entertainment facilities for the tourists in and around Thoothukudi the setting up of a boat House near Roche Park. Thoothukudi becomes inevitable. Therefore the proposal of the District Collector, Thoothukudi for setting up of the Boat House at Roche Park was examined in detail by the Commissioner of Tourism. As the entire amount ie Rs.14.00 lakhs for the setting up of Boat House at Roche Park cannot be met from the Tourism Department fund. The District Collector was requested by the Commissioner of Tourism to explore the possibility of meeting the part of the expenditure towards the setting up new Boat House.

3. The District Collector has agreed to meet Rs.2.50 lakhs from the MLA’s development fund/ small savings interest amount, out of the total estimated cost of Rs.14.00 lakhs and requested to sanction the balance amount by the Tourism Department. The District Collector has also certified that the Thoothukudi Municipality has agreed to operate and maintain the Boat House.

4. The proposal of the Collector and Commissioner of Tourism have been examined in detail. After careful examination the Government have decided to sanction a sum of Rs.7.00 lakhs (Rupees Seven lakhs only) being the 50% of the cost of the total project cost. The District Collector Thoothukudi has also agreed to meet the balance of Rs.7.00 lakhs for the funds of District Administration and he has requested to sanction a sum of Rs.7.00 lakhs being the 50% of the total project cost.

5. The above request of the District Collector has been accepted by the Government. The scheme of Development of Roche Park at Thoothukudi is approved for Rs.14.00 lakhs.(Rs.7.00 lakhs from District Administration and Rs.7.00 lakhs from Tourism Department as State Government share) sanction is accorded for the payment of Rs.7.00 lakhs (Rupees Seven lakhs only) to the Commissioner of Tourism and he is authorized to draw and place it at the disposal of the Collector of Thoothukudi under proper acknowledgement. The amount sanctioned shall be debited to the following head of account:-

Tourist Centres-VI Schemes shared between

State and Centre-UM – providing basic amenities

in Tourist Centres-09- Grants-in-Aid – 03-Grants

for specific scheme." (DPC No.3452 01 101 UM 0938)

6. The Collector of Thoothukudi District shall meet the balance amount of Rs.7.00 lakhs from the District administration funds. The executing agency shall be the Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (Buildings) Thoothukudi. The District Collector, Thoothukudi shall send a monthly progress report of the work to the Commissioner of Tourism. He shall also furnish utilisation Certificate/ Completion Certificate to the Commissioner of Tourism. The Commissioner of Tourism is requested to watch the progress of works get report from the District Collector send the report to the Government periodically.

7. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.50/SS(AKG)/2004, Dated 13.02.2004.
