GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL NADU ABSTRACT Tourism Promotion of Tourism Development of Rameswaram Under Vivekananda Travel Circuit Sanction of Funds by the Government Of India, New Delhi approval of the project Orders Issued Information & Tourism (T1) Department

----------- ORDER: During the meeting convened by the Secretary, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, the development of Rameswaram and the other places associated with the visit of Swami Vivekananda was explained. Accordingly, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had requested the Commissioner of Tourism, Chennai-2, to send detailed proposal for the development of places under Vivekananda Travel Circuit. 2. The District Collector Ramanathapuram was therefore requested to send a detailed proposal for the development of Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram etc. under the scheme of development of Vivekananda Travel Circuit with the financial assistance of Government of India. Accordingly, the District Collector, Ramanathapuram had sent a detailed proposal for the development of the places. 3. Based on the proposal received from the District Collector, Ramanathaapuram District, a detailed proposal for a sum of Rs.367.84 lakhs for the development of Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram and the other places associated with the visit of Swami Vivekananda to Ramanathapuram District was prepared and sent to the Ministry of Tourism for according sanction. 4. The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, New Delhi in their letter dated 29.3.2004 has conveyed the sanction of Rs.168.24 lakhs for the development of Rameswaram Uttarakosamangai etc. as part of Integrated Development of Vivekananda Travel Circuit and released a sum of Rs.54.47 lakhs as first instalment to commence the work. This amount has been remitted into State Government account. The component of the project is as follows:
5. The Commissioner of Tourism in his reference 3rd read above has stated that the Tourist Office at Rameswaram is at present functioning in a rental building. In the sanction made by the Ministry of Tourism in (para 2) (Sl.No.6) there is a provision for a sum of Rs.30.00 lakhs for the Construction of Tourist Reception Centre. It is also learnt that it has been proposed to construct the Tourist Reception Centre near the Rameswaram bus-stand. Hence the District Collector, Ramanathapuram may also be requested to provide space for housing the Tourist Office in the TRC without any rent. Further, the District Collector, Ramanathapuram may be requested to entrust the maintenance of Tourist Reception Centre including Tourist Office with the local Panchayat or any other suitable agency. The Expenditure for the maintenance of the TRC may be met out from the earnings of the Tourist Reception Centre i.e. Clock room, rest room and public convenience. 6. He has also requested that a sum of Rs.54.47 lakhs (Rupees Fifty four lakhs and forty seven thousand only) received from the Ministry of Tourism may be sanctioned to the District Collector, Ramanathapuram to commence the works and the expenditure may be met out from the relevant head of account: 7. Government after careful consideration accept and approve the scheme of Development of Rameswaram as a part of Integrated Development of Vivekananda Travel Circuit at total cost of Rs.168.24 lakhs (Rupees One Crore sixty eight lakhs and twenty four thousand only) and issue administrative sanction for the above project as detailed in para 4 above. Sanction is accorded for the release of Rs.54.47 lakhs (Rupees Fifty four lakhs and forty seven thousand only) being the first instalment released by the Government of India vide the reference 2nd read above. . 8. The expenditure is debitable to the following head of account:
9. The Commissioner of Tourism is authorized to draw and disburse the amount sanctioned in para 7 above to the District Collector, Ramanathapuram under proper acknowledgement. The District Collector, Ramanathapuram is requested to commence the work immediately. 10. The District Collector, Ramanathapuram is also requested to provide space for housing the Tourist Office in the Tourist Reception Centre without any rent. The District Collector, Ramanathapuram is also requested to entrust the maintenance of Tourist Reception Centre including Tourist office with the local panchayat or any other suitable agency. The expenditure for the maintenance of the Tourist Reception Centre may be met out from the earnings of the Tourist Reception Centre i.e. (Clock Room, Rest Room and Public Convenience) 11. This order issues with the Concurrence of the Finance Department vide its U.O.No.51751/Information and Tourism/2004 dated 09.08.2004.
