ORDER:

In order to have more tourists to Tamil Nadu, the Tourist Centres are to be developed with infrastructure facilities of high standard and the facilities to be developed should be long term utility for tourism. The State Government has taken steps to strengthen the existing infrastructure at the tourist destinations and to identify the areas of Tourist importance and to develop them with adequate infrastructure for the benefit of tourists. The Commissioner of Tourism has stated that the infrastructure facilities at Thirumullaivasal Beach in Nagapattinam District are adequate.

2. The Commissioner of Tourism has therefore sent a proposal with detailed estimates for the following works in consultation with the Collector of Nagapattinam District for providing infrastructure facilities at Thirumullaivasal Beach in Nagapattinam District :-

3. The Collector of Nagapattinam District has furnished an estimate for the above works for Rs.7.45 lakhs. He has also stated that out of the total estimated cost of Rs.7.45 lakhs, Rs.5.00 lakhs would be met by the District Administration from the M.L.A Constituency Development fund 2004 – 2005. The Commissioner, Kollidam Panchayat Union has given an undertaking that the assets created from the fund will be maintained by the local Panchayat after completion of the project.

4. In view of the importance of Thirumullaivasal Beach, the Commissioner of Tourism has recommended that a sum of Rs.2.45 lakhs may be sanctioned from the funds provided for provision of infrastructure facilities in the Tourist Centres. He has also requested the Government that the Nagapattinam Collector may be permitted to meet the balance amount out of the total estimated cost of Rs.7.45 lakhs from district funds.

5. The proposal of the commissioner of Tourism in para 4 above has been examined in detail. After careful examination, the Government accepts the request of the Commissioner of Tourism to approve the scheme for Rs.7.45 lakhs and also to sanction a sum of Rs.2.45 lakhs (Rupees Two lakhs and forty five thousand only) for provision of infrastructural facilities at Thirumullaivasal Beach at Nagapattinam District as detailed in the project proposal.

6. Sanction is accorded for the payment of Rs.2.45 lakhs (Rupees Two lakhs and forty five thousand only) to the Commissioner of Tourism and he is authorised to draw the amount and place it at the disposal of the Collector, Nagapattinam District, under proper acknowledgement. The amount sanctioned shall be debited to the following head of account:-

Tourist Centres scheme in Tenth five year plan – VI

schemes shared between State and Centre – UM

– providing basic amenities In tourist centres – 09 –

Grants – in – Aid – 03 – Grants for specific scheme"

7. The Collector of Nagapattinam District shall bear the balance amount of the estimate ie Rs.5 lakhs from the District funds ie from the MLA Constituency Development fund 2004 – 2005. The executing agency shall be the Panchayat Union, Kollidam. The District Collector Nagapattinam shall send a monthly progress report of the work to the Commissioner of Tourism. He shall also furnish utilization Certificate to the Commissioner of Tourism. The Commissioner of Tourism is requested to watch the progress of works, get report from the District Collector and send it report to Government periodically.

8. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.33/DS(BN)/2004, Dated 5.02.2004.
