ORDER:
In order to have more tourists to Tamil Nadu, the Tourist Centres are to be developed with infrastructure facilities of high standard and the facilities to be developed should be long term utility for tourism. The State Government has taken steps to strengthen the existing infrastructure at the tourist destinations and to identify the areas of Tourist importance and to develop them with adequate infrastructure for the benefit of Tourists. The Commissioner of Tourism has stated that the infrastructure facilities at Parvathamalai are inadequate.
2. The Commissioner of Tourism has therefore sent a proposal with detailed estimates in consultation with the Collector of Thiruvannamalai for the creation/strengthening of the following infrastructure facilities at Parvathamalai in Thiruvannamalai District :-
3. The Collector of Thiruvannamalai has furnished an estimate for the above works for Rs.81.17 lakhs. He has also stated that out of the total estimated cost, 50% would be met by the District Administration. The Block Development Officer, Kalasapakkam Panchayat Union has given an undertaking that the Thenmahadevamangalam village panchat will operate and manage the project after completion and bear all operational expenditure.
4. In view of the importance of development of Parvathamalai the Commissioner of Tourism has recommended that a sum of Rs.40.00 lakhs may be sanctioned from the funds provided for provision of infrastructure facilities in the Tourist Centres. He has also requested the Government that the Thiruvannamalai District Collector may be permitted to meet the balance amount out of total estimated cost of Rs.81.17 lakhs from District funds.
5. The proposal of the commissioner of Tourism in para 4 above has been examined in detail. After careful examination, the Government accepts the request of the Commissioner of Tourism and sanction a sum of Rs.40.00 lakhs (Rupees Forty lakhs only) for provision of infrastructural facilities at Parvathamalai in Thiruvannamalai District as detailed in the project proposal.
6.Sanction is accorded for the payment of Rs.40.00 lakhs (Rupees forty lakhs only) to the Commissioner of Tourism and he is authorised to draw the amount and place it at the disposal of the Collector of Thiruvannamali under proper acknowledgement. The amount sanctioned shall be debited to the following head of account:-
7. The Collector of Thiruvannamali District shall bear the balance amount of the estimate ie Rs.41.81 lakhs from the District funds. The Executing agency shall be the Tamil Nadu Government Rural Development Department. The District Collector, Thiruvannamali shall send a monthly progress report of the work to the Commissioner of Tourism. He shall also furnish utilisation certificate / completion -3-
certificate to the Commissioner of Tourism. The Commissioner of Tourism is requested to watch the progress of works, get report from the District Collector and send the report to the Government periodically.
8. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No.150/DS(BN)2003, Dated 26.08.2003.
