ABSTRACT Biotechnology Policy of Tamil Nadu 2000 Issued. INDUSTRIES (MIE.I) DEPARTMENT G.O.Ms.No.318 Read: 1. G.O.Ms.No.180, Industries, dated 03 05 2000. ------- ORDER Tamil Nadu is endowed with rich bio-resources. The recent advancement in Biotechnology has given immense scope for generating large employment opportunities / livelihood opportunities to the people of Tamil Nadu through the effective use of the rich bio-resources of the State. With this in view, the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in his Budget Speech for the year 2000, has announced that a Biotechnology Policy for the State will be formulated and implemented. 2. Accordingly, in the Govt. Order first read above, a High Power Committee of experts under the Chairmanship of Dr.M.S.Swaminathan, M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation was set up for considering the relevant issues in depth and furnishing its recommendations to the Government for formulating a suitable Biotechnology Policy for the State of Tamil Nadu. 3. In the letter second read above, the Chairman of the High Power Committee of experts has submitted the report of the Committee along with its recommendations to the Government for consideration. 4. The Government, after careful examination of the above report and after detailed discussions with various Government departments, are pleased to formulate and adopt an exclusive Biotechnology Policy for the State as appended to this order.
