GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL NADU ABSTRACT Industries - Part II Scheme for 2003-2004 - Mines and Minerals - Scheme for Geographical Information system in Geology and Mining Department - Orders - Issued. INDUSTRIES (MMC.1) DEPARTMENT G.O.2(D)No.23 Read: From the Commissioner of Geology and Mining letter Rc.No.17295 / PD4 / 2002, dated 25.11.2002 and 18.12.2002. -0- ORDER Government in G.O.Ms.No.235, Industries, dt. 24.6.1992 have sanctioned a scheme under Eighth Plan for formation of a computerized Data Base Management system in the Department of Geology and Mining with the objective of developing a data base management system concerning data on Mineral Exploration and Mineral Administration. Accordingly, computer machinery and peripherals, printer and application softwares were purchased and installed during the year 1992-93 and the computer is mainly being used for collection of the data for mineral administration. In order to have the complete analysis of the filed data collected during the geological exploration, the Commissioner of Geology and Mining has proposed that a Geographical Information System package may be set up in the Department. The Geographical Information System study will help in collecting, storing, retrieving, transforming, integrating and displaying the data of geological, geophysical and geochemical nature and quick information on mineral resources, reserves, mineral administration, revenue receipts etc., the Commissioner of Geology and Mining has stated that the hardware and software requirements for the G.I.S package will cost Rs.15.00 lakhs, that it has been proposed to have a Assistant Programmer who will act as the system administrator in charge of programming work on contract basis at fixed amount of Rs.6,000/- and that a data entry operator also has to be recruited on a temporary basis not exceeding a continuous period of 180 days at a fixed amount of Rs. 3,000/- per month. The expenditure towards the cost of the personnel to be employed is about Rs.1.08 lakhs per year and the cost towards installation of GIS unit viz. furniture, air conditioner unit will be Rs.15.00 lakhs. The scheme will be implemented within a year. The total outlay proposed for the year is Rs.16.08 lakhs. 2. The Government after careful examination have decided to accept the proposal of the Commissioner of Geology and Mining. Accordingly the Government sanction the scheme for Geographical Information System in Geology and Mining Department at an estimated cost of Rs.16.08 lakhs (Rupees sixteen lakh eight thousand only) under Part II scheme for the year 2003-2004 as detailed below:
3. The expenditure sanctioned in paragraph 2 (for Rs.1.08 lakhs) will be debited to: "2853 Non-Ferrous Mining and Metallurgical Industries-02. Regulation and Development of Mines-101 Survey and Mapping II State Plan - JA Expansion of State Geological Department 19 Machineries and Equipments 01. (D.P. Code 2853-02-101-JA-1910".) 8.
