ORDER:-

In the G.O. first read above, orders were issued for revision of fares for stage carriages in Tamil Nadu. In the G.O. second read above, orders were issued notifying the contiguous area of the City of Chennai as comprising the Chennai Metropolitan area. In the G.O. third read above, the Government have issued orders amending rule 3(e) of Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 so as to extend town bus services from the existing 30 kms to 35 kms except Chennai.

2. Pursuant to the above Government orders, the Transport Commissioner has sent proposals for fixing fares for the extended service of Metropolitan Transport buses being operated beyond 40 kms in Chennai City and town services being operated beyond 30 kms ion all districts other than Chennai. The Government, after careful examination, have decided to fix the fare structure in respect of the following categories, for the extended distance:-

(1) Chennai Metropolitan area

(2) City and Town services, other than Chennai Metropolitan  area.

3. Accordingly, two Notifications appended to this order will be published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary dated the 23rd May 2007.

NOTIFICATION-I

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (i) of sub-section (1) of section 67 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988) and in supersession of the Home Department Notification No.II(2)/HO/925 (a-1)/2001, published at pages 1 and 2 of Part II -Section 2 of the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 5th December 2001, the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby issues the following direction to the State Transport Authority, Tamil Nadu and the ?Regional Transport Authorities regarding the fixation of fares for stage carriages plying as Metropolitan services in Chennai Metropolitan area in the State of Tamil Nadu.

2. The direction hereby issued shall come into force on the date of publication of this Notification in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette.

DIRECTION.

The fares for the stage carriages, plying as Metropolitan Services in Chennai Metropolitan area on routes / areas in the State of Tamil Nadu shall not exceed the fares calculated at rates specified in the Table below:-

(A stage approximating as far as practicable to two kilometres).

2. In respect of limited stop services / point to point services wherever they are operated, a flat charge of 50 paise per ticket shall be collected in addition to the fares fixed in the Table above.

3. If it is expedient to operate Express types of services for the benefit of travelling public, one and a half times of the ordinary fare for such operation shall be charged.

4. In respect of operation of night services two times of the ordinary fare shall be collected.

5. In respect of operation of deluxe services, two times of limited stop service fare shall be collected.

6. The fare shall be rounded off to the next higher multiple of fifty paise.

Explanation I.- "Ghat Road" means a road notified in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette as such by the Government under the Tamil Nadu Traffic Rules, 1938 and indicated in a notice board erected at each end of such road.

Explanation II.- The fares fixed in the table above shall also apply to Rameswaram Island.
