ABSTRACT Motor Vehicles – Transport Department - Autorickshaws / Share Autos/Taxis/Call Taxis/Tourist Taxis plying in Chennai City – Compulsory Display of Driver Licence Display Card in Autorickshaws/Share Autos/Taxis/ Tourist Taxis/Call Taxis – Orders-Issued. Home (Transport-VII) Department G.O.Ms.No.672 Read Transport Commissioner, Chennai5 letter R.No.66279/G3/2006, dated 4.12.2006, 14.12.06, 2.2.2007 and 5.2.2007. ORDER:- The Transport Commissioner has submitted a proposal regarding the introduction of Auto Driver Licence Display Card (ADLDC) to be compulsorily displayed in Autorickshaws. The Auto Driver Licence Display card contains details of the Driver, like Name, Address, Photograph, driving licence No., Badge No., Validity of Driving Licence, Telephone No., Mobile No., etc., for easy identification and verification purposes. This may go a long way in helping the passengers and the law enforcing authorities including containing of crimes involving Autorickshaws and aiding in the recovery of articles left behind in the auto rickshaws by the passengers- 2. The Transport Commissioner has also furnished a model format of the Driver Licence Card. He has suggested to implement the scheme with effect from 1.6.2007 and issue of such cards to the drivers could be completed within six months (i.e.) by 30.11.2007. 3. The Government after careful examination have decided to accept the proposal of Transport Commissioner and to introduce the Driver Licence Display Card not only in Autos / Share autos but also in Taxis, Call Taxis and Tourist Taxis in Chennai City only as a Pilot Scheme. Accordingly the Government issue the following orders:- (i) The Driver Licence Display Card shall be as one annexed to the Government Order. (ii) The Scheme of Driver Licence Display Card in Autos / Share Autos / Taxis / Call Taxis / Tourist Taxis shall be implemented in Chennai city only as a pilot basis, with effect from 1.6.2007 and issue of such cards to the drivers shall be completed within six months i.e. by 30.11.2007. (iii) After seeing the implementation in Chennai City the scheme would be extended to the whole of Tamil Nadu. (iv) The driver has to carry the display card while on duty and exhibit it on the backside of the drivers seat, which has to be provided in such a manner to be seen by the travelling passenger easily. (v) Display cards will be issued free of cost to all the existing Autorickshaws / Share Autos / Call Taxis / Tourist Taxis / Taxi drivers and also to all those Drivers who would be obtaining Driving Licences and would be desirous of these cards upto 30.11.2007. The expenditure involved in the proposal will be met out from Road Safety Fund, 2007-2008. (vi) After 30.11.2007, issue of fresh cards to the drivers who have not obtained or in case of reissue of display cards due to misplacement / loss of cards / change of address in Driving Licence, etc., a sum of Rs.30/- (Rupees thirty only) will be collected as fees by cash by the Regional Transport office concerned.
