ABSTRACT PRISONS – Wages – Wages earned by prisoners – Disbursement of wages due to be paid on release of prisoners – Amendment to Tamil Nadu Prison Rules , 1983 – Ordered. HOME (PRISON.V) DEPARTMENT G.O.Ms.No.387 READ: From the Additional Director General of Prison, Chennai letter No.57737 / PW2 / 2003, dated 31.12.2003. ***** ORDER: The following Notification will be published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette:- NOTIFICATION In exercise of powers conferred by section 59 of the Prisons Act, 1894, (Central Act IX of 1894), the Governor of Tamil Nadu hereby makes the following amendment to the Tamil Nadu Prison Rules, 1983. AMENDMENT In the said Rules, in rule 481, after sub-rule (3), the following sub-rule shall be added, namely:- "(4) If the wages earned by the prisoner are not credited in to his cash property Account due to administrative reasons on release of the prisoner, he shall be informed in writing, in the presence of the jailor that the earnings remained due to him will be paid to him after the amount is drawn and credited into his account. After the amount is drawn and credited into his account, it shall be sent to him, by Money order, to the address given by the prisoner, at the time of his release. The jailor shall be responsible to see that the wages due to the prisoner on his release is sent to the correct address, as furnished by the prisoner at the time of his release and also care shall be taken that there is no misuse or abuse of this process".
