ORDER

            The state of Tamil Nadu  is experiencing phenomenal growth in various sectors and hence the infrastructure in the state has also to be constantly upgraded to copeup with the growth of those sectors. The Govt. have therefore decided that based on the traffic intensity and the importance of the roads, certain roads may be upgraded as State Highways and Major District Roads. The Chief Engineer (General), Highways has accordingly sent proposals for upgradation of certain Major District Roads and Other District Roads as State Highways and upgradation of certain Other District Roads as Major District Roads as follows:-

            2. The Government after careful consideration accept the proposal of the Chief Engineer (General), Highways and accordingly direct

           (i) that the Major District Roads, Other District Roads and other roads listed out in the annexure - I to this order shall be upgraded and classified as State Highways, with   the State Highways numbers assigned to them in coloum 8 therein, and,

         (ii) that the Other District Roads as mentioned in the annexure - II to this order

              shall be upgraded and classified as Major District Roads

3. The Government also direct that additional expenditure required for the maintenance of these upgraded roads should be accommodated within the allotted budget provision for 2006-2007 for maintenance component.

4. This orders issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O.No. 2327/FS/P/2006 dated 3.7.2006.
