ORDER:

In   the G.O. second Read above, the Government have reconstituted the Tamil Nadu sailing Vessels Relief Fund   Committee.

2.The proposal relating to the payment of financial Assistance from  the Tamil Nadu Sailing Vessels Crew Relief Fund to the   deceased  crew was placed before the reconstituted   committee on 12.3.2001.  The committee considered that the amount of Rs,.5000/- fixed toward financial assistance in 1972 was insufficient and therefore the committee has recommended an increase in the compensation payable to the crew members and decided to refer the matter to the Government  for consideration.

3. Subsequently, the decision taken by the committee were placed before the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board during its 24th Meeting held on 29.3.2001  and the Board passed the following resolution  No, 105/2000/01,

i)   Further resolved to obtain necessary amendment  to G.O. Ms. ,No. 37. Highways Department  dated 22.2.2001 appointing Tamil Nadu Maritime Board as the sanctioning authority for the Tamil Nadu Sailing Vessels Crew Relief Fund.

ii)  Further resolved to recommend the proposal of the committee to increase the compensation payable to the crew members   and  to refer the matter to the  Government for consideration.

Tamil Nadu Maritime Board has requested the orders of Government on the above proposal.

4. The Government after careful consideration decided as follows:-

i)   to enhance the  compensation payable to crew members under crew  relief fund   from Rs.5000/-(Rupees Five thousand only) per person to Rs.10000/-(Rupees Ten thousand only)   per person and

ii)  to appoint Tamil Nadu Maritime Board  as the sanctioning authority  for Tamil Nadu Sailing Vessels Crew Relief Fund.

5. The following amendments are accordingly issued to the Tamil Nadu Sailing Vessels Crew Relief Fund Rules 1978:-

AMENDMENTS

1)     For the existing Rule 5 of T.N.S.V.CRFR 1978, the following Rules shall be substituted.

5. Grant of Assistance

There shall be paid to the legal lair of the sailor who is killed or lost at sea, an exgratia  grant not exceeding Rs.  10,000/- (Rupees ten thousands only).  The quantum of assistance shall be determined by the TNMB with reference to the merits of individual cases.

2) For the  existing  Rule 6 of Tamil Nadu Sailing Vessels Crew Relief Fund Rules, 1978 the following  Rules shall be substituted viz:-

6. ADMINISTRATION OF THE FUND

The fund shall be administered  by Tamil Nadu Maritime Board.

6.  These amendments shall take effect with effect from the date of this Government Order.

7. This order issues  with  the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O. No.51155 / BPE / 2002 dated 18/7/2002.
