Handlooms,Handicrafts,Textiles and Khadi department dated 30.7.2002 2) From the Director of Handlooms & Textiles Letter No.999/2001/P1 dated 7.8.2002 and 6/9/2002 ---- ORDER: The Government have decided to implement a new scheme called Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme to give alternative employment to 15000 handloom weavers . Consequent on the Government's decision to implement the Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme, the following orders are issued :- 1) A new scheme of "Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme" be implemented to give alternative employment to 15000 handloom weavers. 2) 35 lakh sarees and 14 lakh dhoties under the Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme be produced for the year 2002-2003 by Co-optex and to sell the same through Fair Price Shops and Co-optex Showrooms, Government Departments / Government undertakings, other Government Institutions and the public at the rate of Rs.40/- per saree and Rs.30/- per dhothy. 3) The action of Managing Director, Co-optex in having given instructions for the supply of yarn to the Weavers Co-operative Societies in Ammayarkuppam areas in Tiruvallur District and other areas to undertake the production of Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme is ratified. 2. Government sanction Rs.47.41 crores for the scheme in 2002-2003 and Rs.47.67 crores for the scheme in 2003-2004. Suitable provisions will be made in Revised Estimate 2002-2003 + Budget Estimate 2003-2004. 3. The expenditure sanctioned in para 2 above shall be debited under the new head of account :-

and Small Industries 4. The Commissioner of Handlooms & Textiles and the Managing Director, Co-optex are requested to ensure the quality of Sarees and Dhoties under the Scheme . It is important to ensure that the products are readily marketable and can be easily sold. 5. The Commissioner of Handlooms & Textiles and the Managing Director, Co-optex are requested to take necessary follow up action for implementation of the Low Cost Sarees and Dhoties Scheme successfully. The receipts under the scheme should be remitted to Government. The Managing Director, Co-optex will be responsible for reconciling the receipts from all agencies including Fair Price Shops under Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
