ORDER:

The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (Malaria and Filaria) has stated that Japanese Encephalitis is endemic in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Perambalur Districts. The children, especially in the age group of 1 – 11 years are more vulnerable for Japanese Encephalitis infection. There are 3,33,224 childrens living in 60 Primary Health Centres in these three districts. These children have to be immunised with Japanese Encephalitis vaccine and they are to be given with 3 primary doses, and 3 booster doses. A total of 76,600 vials of Japanese Encephalitis vaccine are required to immunise the children and these Japanese are required to immunise the children and these Japanese Encephalitis vaccine has to be imported through World Health Organisation for the year 1999-2000 at a cost of Rs.173.88 lakhs (Rupees one hundred seventy three lakhs and eighty eight thousand only) for one year.

2. The Government after careful examination of the proposal of the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (Malaria and Filaria), have decided to restrict the procurement of Japanese Encephalitis vaccine to 31,000 vials, at a cost which works cut to Rs.67.00 lakhs (Rupees sixty seven lakhs only). The Government accord sanction for a sum of Rs.67.00 lakhs (Rupees sixty seven lakhs only) towards the procurement of 31,000 vials of Japanese Encephalitis vaccine from the World Health Organisation. The Government permit the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (Malaria and Filaria) to import the above quantity of Japanese Encephalitis vaccine through the World Health Organisation, New Delhi.

3. The Government authorise the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (Malaria and Filaria) to draw the amount sanctioned in paragraph 2 above in advance by Demand Draft and incur the expenditure for the purpose for which it is sanctioned pending provision of funds in Revised Estimate/Finan Modified Appropriation for 1999-2000.

4. The expenditure shall be debited to the head under "2210 – Medical and Public Health – 06 – Public Health 101 – Prevention and Control of Diseases – Schemes in the Ninth Five Year Plan – II State Plan – JQ Control of Japanese Encephalitis – 24 Materials and Supplies. 5. The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (Malaria and Filaria) is also requested to include the expenditure while sending proposals for provision of funds in the Revised Estimate/Final Modified Appropriation for 1999-2000.

6. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department, vide its U.O.No.735/SS(GV)/Health-I/99-1, dated 23-12-1999.
