Order:

In order to provide improved Service to the public who are afford to pay to the Services offered Government have decided to start a Paying Maternity Ward in the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children, Chennai from 1.2.2003. Accordingly the Government pass the following orders:

  1. The responsibility of  providing infrastructure to the proposed paying ward in the Hospital is entrusted to the Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation.

  2. The overall responsibility of running the ward is entrusted to the Director and Superintendent institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children. The paying labour ward shall be attached with Director’s unit and the Director shall keep this ward under her overall control. She will be personally and the Director shall keep this ward under her overall control. She will be personally responsible for administering the ward and providing services in the paying Maternity Ward.

  3. The Government permit the conversion of the existing septic labour ward into 40 bedded paying labour ward in addition to existing special ward.

  4. The Government permit the M.D., Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation for preparing an estimate not exceeding Rs.15/- lakhs (Rupees fifteen lakhs only) for giving face lift and carrying out the infra structural changes to convert the existing wards into paying ward and constructing 500 sq.ft. of area to accommodate 10 bedded septic labour ward.

  5. The Government permit the Director, Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children to post a Reader / Senior Civil Surgeon from the existing persons who will be in exclusive charge of the paying ward.

  6. The Government permit the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation to provide outsourcing the Laboratory Services, Nursing Services, Para Medical Services and Sanitary Services from its funds which will be reimbursed later from the funds generated from the paying ward. A sum of upto Rs.500/- shall be paid to the call duty Anesthetist towards transport and incidental expenses for attending to the emergency cases in paying ward.

  7. The Drugs and Diet required for paying ward shall be met from regular Hospital Services.

  8. The M.D., Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation is directed to remit the charges collected from paying ward into a separate account to be opened for this purpose.

  9. The Government fix the charges as indicated below for the various services rendered to the patients in the paying maternity ward in the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children, Chennai:

2. The scheme is implemented as a trial measure and after watching the functioning of this paying ward this will be extended to other Hospitals.
