HIV / AIDS - Prevention - Distribution of Condoms through Fair price shops in Tamil Nadu orders - Issued.

ORDER:

HIV / AIDS is spreading like an epidemic, taking heavy toll of human lives one of the main reasons for spread of this dreadful disease is the unsafe sex among the people at large.

2. In order to Control / Prevent, HIV / AIDS, the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society is striving hard to control the spread of this disease one of the important component of its strategy is to making condoms available in as many places as possible through Social marketing. However, recent survey on sexual behavior of people in rural areas of State revealed that availability of Condoms is not as free and as easy as it ought to be. One of the important way to ensure easy access to condoms is its sale through fair price shops which exist in most of the village in rural areas. Due to the enviable network of shops, it can play an important role in making condoms available across the State, thereby contributing to the cause of prevention of HIB in the State.

3. Government have examined the proposal of the Project Director, Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society and they have decided to accept the proposal. The Government accordingly, order the sale of condoms through all the fair price shops spread throughout the State of Tamil Nadu for prevention of HIV/ AIDS among rural / Urban population. The Project Director, Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society shall oversee that condoms are made available for sale at all fair price shops in the State and take necessary follow up action in consultation with Registrar of Co-operative Societies / District Collectors / Other Head of Departments concerned etc., if necessary.

4. The Project Director, Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society is requested to send a status report in the matter after implementation.

5. This order issues with the Concurrence of Secretary, Cooperation Food and Consumer Protection Department vide U. O. No. 28, dated 7.01.20303.
