Order: 

In G.O.Ms.No.320, Health, dated 30.11.2001, orders were issued for increase of 315 MBBS seats in five Government Medical Colleges and reserving 150 seats for NRI students.  The Additional Director of Medical Education/ Secretary, Selection Committee has sent draft prospectus and application form for MBBS course for NRI students.

2.The Government have examined the draft prospectus and application form sent by the The Additional Director of Medical Education/ Secretary, Selection Committee and issue the following orders:-

(1)the eligibility criteria for admission to MBBS course under NRI scheme are follows:- 

Eligibility: 

a) Candidates of  Indian Origin settled in Foreign Countries 
b) Candidates who were born in foreign  countries and whose parents are of Indian origin.
c) Indian citizens who stay abroad for employment, business, and vacation or under circumstances indicating his/her intention for an uncertain period which includes. 

i) Indian citizens if deputed abroad by public sector undertaking, UN etc.

ii) Officials of Central and State Governments on deputation abroad.  For the purpose of opening and maintaining of bank account and disinvestment in shares/securities in India, a foreign citizen (other than a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh) is deemed to be of Indian origin if, 

iii) He/She at any time in India held a passport

iv)  He/She or either of his/her parents/grandparents was citizen of India.

v)  The spouse (not being a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh) of a person of  Indian origin, for the purpose. 

(2)  The minimum eligibility marks and age are as follows:- 

a) Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Biology or Botany and Zoology taken together and minimum of 50% marks in each of the subject of  physics and Chemistry studied with medium of instruction as English.

b) The candidates should have completed 17 years on or before 31st December 2002.

 (3) a) the distribution of 150 seats amongst all the Government Medical Colleges as already ordered in G.O.Ms.No.320, Health, dated 30.11.2001, be done from next year.  The students shall be accommodated in 5 Medical colleges as detailed in the G.O. for the academic year 2002-2003 only subjected to the approval by Medical Council of India/ Government of India. 

b) In the declaration format apart from Father/Mother/Husband/Guardian, Brother and Sister shall be included”  

4)  subject to above, the Prospectus for NRI students proposed by the Secretary, Selection is approved by the Government.
