GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL NADU ABSTRACT Public Health – Issue of Health Cards to old age pensioners /Geriatric Patients to get Special treatment in Government Hospitals – Orders – Issued. Health and Family Welfare (E1) Department

------- ORDER: Honourable Minister for Finance and Honourable Minister for Health, have announced on the floor of the Assembly, that Health Cards will be issued to Geriatric Patients coming to Government Hospitals to get Specialised treatment. 2. The Director of Medical Education has accordingly sent proposals to Government for printing of Health Cards to Geriatric patients living below the poverty line for getting special treatment in Government Hospitals. 3. The Government after careful consideration of the proposals of the Director of Medical Education have decided to print 10 lakhs Health cards at a cost of Rs.2/- per Health Card for distribution to old age pensioners and Geriatric patients who are below poverty line to get free treatment in Government Hospitals. The Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation should arrange for the printing of Health Cards from the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation funds through the Private Press. Reimbursement of the cost of the cards used for Old Age Pensioners from eligible administrative charges will be taken up with Joint Commissioner of Revenue Administration separately, after the report on the actual cost of Health Cards is received from the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation. 4. The Director of Medical Education is requested to design the Health Cards to be issued to the Old Age Pensioners / Geriatric patients in Government Hospitals and send it to the Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation for starting Printing of Health Cards. The Director of Medical Education is also requested to evolve the modalities for distribution of the above Health Cards with the involvement of Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and Director of Medical and Rural Health Services.
