ORDER:

A workshop on Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project was held on 3rd to 5th April 2003 at the World Bank, Lodi Estate, New Delhi. The Nodal Officers of all States of Phase I under Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project and the Officials of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of India and other institutes of Health Field such as World Health Organisation, World Bank, National Institute of Communicable Disease, ICMR, NIE, CBHI, Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, AIIMS and Indiaclen participated. One of the items decided at the workshop was to form State Level Disease Surveillance Committee and District level Disease Surveillance Committee for co-ordination, supervision, monitoring and review of the activities of Integrated Disease Surveillance Project.

2. Accordingly the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has requested to issue necessary orders for formation of the committees i.e., State Disease Surveillance Committee and District Disease Surveillance Committee (for each Revenue District).

3. The Government have examined the request of the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and constitute the State level Disease Surveillance Committee with the following officials as members:

DISEASE SURVEILLANCE COMMITTEE – STATE LEVEL

This Committee will meet quarterly or need basis to discuss various issues relating to, the implementation of Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project in Tamil Nadu in
respect of :

1) Policy issues

2) Co-ordination between departments

3) Counselling and Guiding the Authoring

4) Periodical reviews

5) Liaison between State and Centre

4. The Government also constitute the District level Disease Surveillance Committee with the following officials as members:

DISEASE SURVEILLANCE COMMITTEE – DISTRICT LEVEL

This Committee will meet once in three months to discuss various issues for implementation of Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project as per PIP and liaise with the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and State Disease Surveillance Committee.
