******* ORDER: The Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness Project is being implemented in six selected Districts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Predesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu States with UNICEF World Health Organisation support. In Tamil Nadu, it is implemented with an outlay of Rs.63,76,500/- is Vellore District during 2003-2007. The target group is children in the age group 0-2 years including the first week of life. The project is implemented with focus on Newborn s and young infants care and a new component of home and community based Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness with active involvement of Village Health Nurses, Anganwadi workers, Women Self Help group members and community level activists. Emphasise will be laid to ensure the rights of children for survival and improve the neonatal health to bring down the stagnant Infant Mortality Rate. The components of Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness include training to improve the case Management skills of Health Staff in handling ARI, Diarroheal Diseases, Fever and Mal-nutrition and to plan for an overall improvement in health system and family and community practices. Under the programme, the Government Hospitals at Sholingur, Walajah and Gudiyatham have been identified as the "Hub-Hospital" and the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness project will cover Health Sub Centres/Primary Health Centres about 50 Kilometers around these Hub-Hospitals in Vellore District. Planning meeting was held at New Delhi in January 2003. 2. For the effective implementation of the project and to review the project activities periodically, the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has suggested that a State Level Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department may be constituted. 3. The Government have examined the request of the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine and direct that a State Level Steering Committee be constituted under the Chairmanship of the Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department with the following composition:
4. The Committee shall meet in periodical intervals to review the progress in the implementation of the Project.
