ABSTRACT Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund - Relief and rehabilitation of victims of Tsunami 2004 in Tamil Nadu - Contribution in foreign currency by NRI and others Abroad - Procedure for remittance of contribution and credit to CMPRF - Instructions -Issued. Finance (CMPRF) Department G.O.Ms.No.19 ORDER: The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has pointed out in the press statement issued on 28-12-2004 that the calamity which struck the Tamil Nadu Coast on 26-12-2004 was unprecedented in its suddenness and ferocity. In the press statement it has been pointed out that the coastal economy has been totally damaged and fishermen have been devasted losing their homes, possessions and livelihood and that lakhs of people have been rendered homeless. 2. After extensive and repeated aerial inspections and many on the spot inspections in tidal wave affected areas in the State, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has appealed to all well-meaning and right spirited persons, organisations in India and abroad to contribute generously to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund in view of the enormity of the task of rehabilitation lying ahead. 3. In response to the appeal, there has been a spate of enquiries from donors from foreign countries also. Enquiries from donors who are non-resident Indians have been received about the procedure they should follow for remitting their contributions in foreign currency and transfer of the donations to the CMPRF. 4. The procedure involved in transmission of foreign currency donations to the CMPRF has been discussed with officers from both public and private sector banks. It has been suggested that to maintain simplicity and ease of such transactions it would be advisable to authorize only a few large banks having wide transactions and handling Government accounts and to receive the remittance in US$. Government have examined the suggestions and authorize the following banks for this purpose: (1) State Bank of India (2) Indian Overseas Bank and (3) ICICI Bank They are permitted to accept donations to the CMPRF and to credit the proceeds in Indian rupees to the CMPRF Account maintained by Indian Overseas Bank, Secretariat Branch, Chennai-600 009. The procedure for remittance is as below: (i) The donor can remit the contribution in US$ currency or in Indian Rupees. (ii) The donor should indicate that the ultimate destination is the Chief Minster’s Public Relief Fund through the Savings Bank Account No.70 of Indian Overseas Bank, Secretariat Branch, Chennai-600 009, India. (iii) Indications regarding Receiver’s correspondent bank, Beneficiary Bank, SWIFT Account Number and code will have to be furnished in instructions to their bankers. The donors can choose any one of the three banks mentioned above for remitting their contributions to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. Particulars to be mentioned depending upon the banks chosen from the list above are given in para 5. (iv) For receiving an official receipt from the CMPRF donors may kindly mention their address in their remittance instructions. 5. 2. Indian Overseas Bank Remittance can be made through Indian Overseas Bank Branches, (Illustration- IOB, Dollar Correspondent Nostrio A/c. CITI Bank, New York). Remittance from the Middle East can be made through UAE Exchange Centre/ Baharain Exchange Centre/ Oman and UAE Exchange Centre / Al Fardan Exchange Centre.

All Public spirited citizens and organizations abroad and non-resident Indians living overseas are invited to participate in this enormous task of rehabilitating thousands of people affected in Tamilnadu by the giant waves on 26-12-2004 by sending in their generous contributions to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund (CMPRF). These donations will be utilized for relief and rehabilitation of the tsunami affected victims under the guidance of the Chief Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu.
