ORDER 

With a view to abate pollution and, thereby benefit the local and floating population, Project Reports for Ooty and Kodaikanal lakes for treatment and Eco-restoration through Bio remediation were forwarded the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for approval.

UDHAGAMANDALAM LAKE 

This  Government in their letter first read above have sent Project Reports for treatment and Bio-remediation for Udhagamandalam Lake at on estimated cost of RS. 1.75 Crores to the Ministry of Environment and Forests Government of India.  The entire cost would be met by the Government of India.  The details of works proposed are given in Annexure - II. 

3.         The Commissioner of Municipal Administration in his letter Fourth read above, has requested administrative approval  on the works relating to Kodaikanal Lake so as to enable him to proceed further viz. Calling for tenders for civil works, dredging and Bio-remediation etc.

4.         The Government, after careful consideration of the projects of the above  two lakes, issue the following orders:-


1)  The Government accord administration sanction for undertaking sewage treatment, Interception and     diversion and Bio-remediation works for the revival and restoration of Kodaikanal and Udhagamandalam lakes.

 2)  The Government accord in - Principal approval for the revival of Kodaikanal lake.  Apart from the Central Government's share for the project, the balance project cost will be met from the State and Kodaikanal Municipality funds to be provided during the project period.

3)   Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board is requested to prepare the Detailed Project Reports on sewage, house connection Interception and Diversion works, Low cost community toilet works and send  the same to Government for approval as these works will have to be maintained by the Kodaikanal  Municipality. 

4)  The Public Works Department shall be the 'Nodal Department' for calling tenders relating to dredging  and execution of the Bio-remidiation works, and operating and monitoring after works are completed.

5)   In respect of Udhagamandalam lake also abatement of pollution works shall be executed as in the case of Kodaikanal lake by the Public Works Department.  For this, Public Works Department shall be the Nodal Department.

6)   As the cost Estimate for the Kodaikanal Lake has been prepared approximately, necessary approval shall be obtained for the detailed project report from the Public works Department and Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department for implementation of the scheme.

7)   The Municipal Administration and Worker Supply Department is requested to get the State and local body's share and release it to Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board for implementing the works.

5.  As the supplementary Estimate has been finalised for the current financial year it has been decided to provide necessary funds for the above scheme in the next financial year (2001-2002)

6.  This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide it U.O. No. 548/FS/P/2000-1 Dated 13.2.2001.
