ORDER:                  

In their order first read above, orders were issued to form a Office of District Registrar (Societies), Chennai  amalgamating the functions of the work under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975  attached to the Office of  District Registrar,  Chennai (South), District Registrar, Chennai  (North) and District Registrar, Chennai  (Central).  Notification under section 2 (i) of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 was issued in the G.O. second read above which was published  as Notification No. 11 (2) /CT/329/99.  Accordingly the office of District Registrar (Societies) Chennai is functioning with effect from 31.3.1999. 

2. In his letter third read above, the Inspector General of  Registration has expressed certain difficulties in the functioning of  above office such as  maintenance and updating of records, inadequate strength of staff to meet the day to  day needs of the people and access to the public coming from peripheral areas.  If the functions are transferred  back to the  District Registrar, Chennai (North), District Registrar, Chennai (South) and District Registrar, Chennai (Central),  the work load will be shared instead of one at present.  He has therefore recommended that  the functioning of the Office of the District Registrar (Societies) Chennai may be disbanded and the functions   under    Tamil   Nadu    Societies    Registration   Act  1975       transferred      back      to     the       District Registrar’s   ( Administration)   Chennai (North),  Chennai (South) and Chennai (Central). 

3.  After examining the recommendation of Inspector General of Registration  The Government have   decided to disband the post of District Registrar (Societies) Chennai and therefore direct that the functioning of  the Office of District Registrar ( Societies) Chennai be disbanded with immediate effect .

4.  The Government also direct that, the functions hitherto dealt with by District Registrar (Societies) Chennai be transferred back to the District Registrar (Administration), Chennai (North),   District  Registrar,  (Administration) Chennai (South) and District  Registrar,  (Administration)  Chennai (Central).

5.  In    the  G.O.    first read above,  the post of  Joint-II Sub-Registrar (District Registrar Cadre), Chennai (North) was  converted  as District Registrar (Societies), Chennai.  The Joint –I Sub-Registrar (District  Registrar Cadre) , Chennai (North) was requested to attend the work of Joint-II  Sub-Registrar  (District Registrar Cadre).  In view of  disbandment of the post of the District Registrar, (Societies), Chennai the Inspector Generalof Registration  is requested to send   necessary proposal for utilising the post to the needy Registration District.

6.  The Works Manager, Government Central Press is requested to publish the Notification annexed to this order.
