ABSTRACT Public Distribution System - Family cards for drawal of commodities - Renewal of existing family cards beyond 31.12.2003 - Orders - Issued. Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection (F) Department G.O.(3D) No. 37 ORDER: The Public Distribution System in Tamil Nadu is catering to about 1.61 crore family cardholders (as on 31.5.2003) and the validity of the family cards held by them will expire on 31.12.2003. The Government has recently issued new rice coupons with effect from 1.7.2003 to all rice card holders. The Government has, after careful consideration, decided to revalidate the existing family cards for a period of one year, with effect from 1.1.2004, i.e., from 1.1.2004 to 31.12.2004. The renewal process will consist of affixing the renewal period on the ration card with the signature of the issuing authority and by adding additional inner sheets for recording the drawal of monthly entitlement of various commodities issued under the Public Distribution System. The renewal of family cards, as mentioned above, will be made from 1st October 2003 to 31.12.2003 at the Taluk Supply Offices and such other centres to be opened to the extent necessary by the District Collectors and by the Assistant Commissioners of the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department so far as Chennai City and its belt areas are concerned. For the convenience of the public, the renewal will be done even on public holidays. 2. The Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection is requested to issue necessary instructions to all concerned in this regard. The Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and the Collectors shall give due publicity to the process of renewal of existing family cards through public media, namely, local newspapers, TV and radio besides Public Distribution System outlets for information of the general public. 3. The Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection is requested to send in consultation with the Director of Stationery and Printing necessary proposal for sanction of fund to meet the expenditure on printing and distribution of inner sheets to the existing card holders.
