ORDER:
In the letter read above, the Director, Tamil Virtual University, has stated that during the National Conference on ‘Mobile Computing-Localisation and Standardisation’ organized jointly by Tamil Virtual University and KaNi Tamizh Sangam at Velammal Engineering College, Chennai on 22.7.2006, it was discussed that in order to make the usage and benefit to reach the rural mass, the Mobile Phone should be made available in local languages-Tamil. Further, to facilitate the fast development of tools and technology, coding and key pad layout should be standardized. During the Conference, it was also observed that only when the different available schemes, developed by different groups are standardized, the manufacturers of mobiles will adopt it.
2. Hence, the Director, Tamil Virtual University has requested the Government for the formation of a committee to look into the matter of standardization of Tamil in Mobile Phones.
3. The Government after careful examination, accept the above request of the Director, Tamil Virtual University and proposes to constitute a Committee in this regard. Accordingly, the Government constitute a Committee with the following members to look into the matter of standardization of coding and key pad layout for Tamil in Mobile Phones and to recommend a good scheme as standard:-

The Government also entrust the associated work of organizing meetings for standardization, to Tamil Virtual University.
4. The Director, Tamil Virtual University is requested to send a report after completion of the work of standardization of Tamil in Mobile Phones.
